Pain ManagementAmong our most important duties is the provision of analgesia (pain control) for our patients. This is equally important for the sharp pain associated with broken bones and torn ligaments as it is for the older pet afflicted with arthritic pain and stiffness. While hospitalized, your pet is regularly monitored for signs of discomfort. If this is identified, additional analgesia is immediately provided. Upon returning home, please feel free to call and let us know if you feel that your friend may be in pain. We can help! Alternatives include: - Analgesic injections - Analgesic pills or syrup - Slow release narcotic patch - Warm or cold compresses - Massage Perhaps the most neglected pets are those venerable veterans who are slowed down by arthritic pain. With the safe and effective medications and supplements currently available to combat this, it is no longer acceptable to simply say "he's just old". If you have any concerns please arrange to have your older companion examined to discuss alternatives for arthritis. |
