DR. MARC GLAVIN
My first memory of wanting to be a veterinarian is from age seven (right after they told me I couldn't be a jet fighter pilot because of my glasses!) A young stray cat had taken up residence under our deck and given birth to three sickly kittens. It was obvious to me even at that age that they needed some help, so I implored my parents to allow "Snowy" to live with us. I remember my first visit to the vet, where Snowy and the kittens were treated for fleas and worms. I instantly knew that this noble profession was for me, and have never wavered in this conviction!

Family: I am deeply grateful to my wife Susanna for all her support during my years in school and in the first six years at the animal hospital. Many were the nights she stayed up to help with a cesarian section or other emergency, only to then head off to her work at the Ottawa Regional Cancer Centre! Nowadays, she helps us with bookkeeping, all while raising our three beautiful children - Eric, Maya, and Monica. We now enjoy the company of two fun loving Shih Tzus named Jasper and Taylor, who came to us through our client Heather Glen! In our spare time Susanna and I enjoy flatwater kayaking, tennis and travelling to visit friends in Ontario and beyond.
DR. DON MCKIEL
Dr. Don McKiel was a partner at Bells Corners Animal Hospital from 1975-1999. At that time he decided to step back from the rigors of being a full-time veterinarian and divide his time between working on his farm, his family and doing veterinary consulting. In addition to his clinical work here at Carp Rd. Animal Hospital he also provides consulting services to the Canadian Wildlife Service and is the doctor responsible for the veterinary care of Ottawa's Royal Swans!

Areas of Interest: Dr. McKiel has a strong and well developed interest in bird and exotic animal medicine and surgery, particularly rabbits and other small mammals. He has had training and experience in the exciting field of CRYOSURGERY. This involves the destruction of tumours, masses and eyelid abnormalities using the freezing action of liquid nitrogen. He has trained Dr. Glavin in the use of this new technique.
Family: Dr. McKiel is married to Dawn, a registered nurse. Their daughter Laura enjoys spending time at the animal hospital. They have a mixed breed dog named Blue (quite the sheep herder!), and three cats - Al, Skippy and Tumbleweed.
DR. CATHERINE OLIARNYK
I have worked with animals for as long as I can remember, including summer jobs at the Ottawa Carleton Wildlife Centre, and the Wild Bird Care Centre in Nepean. My first experience working in a vet clinic was as a receptionist for Dr. McKiel and Dr. Glavin! Prior to starting veterinary school I worked as a wildlife researcher, studying the breeding biology of songbirds in Australia and Hawaii. Perhaps then, it's no surprise that I have a special interest in pet bird medicine.

DR. ALISON SEELY
I always knew that I would work with animals - I have loved them since the age of two! I began my career as a Marine Biologist and soon discovered that my greatest satisfaction came from "doctoring" the seals and dolphins during illness, rather than researching them! I changed tack and became a Veterinarian.
Education:
- Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (University of Guelph 1995)
- Bachelor of Science (Acadia University - Nova Scotia 1986)
- Masters of Science (University of Guelph 1991)
- Certificate in Animal Chiropractic (American Veterinary Chiropractic Association, Illinois 1995)
- College of Veterinarians of Ontario
- American Veterinary Chiropractic Association
Areas of Interest: I married a human Chiropractor and became sister-in-law to four Chiropractors. My decision to follow a path in animal chiropractic seems to have been inevitable! Chiropractic now makes up the majority of my veterinary practice. I am consistently amazed by how well animals respond to chiropractic adjustment. The improvements in the health and well-being of my patients makes for a rewarding and enjoyable career.
Family: My husband Kevin and I have three small children, an enormous Irish Wolfhound named Finn, a cat and horses. In my spare time I enjoy running, canoeing , horse back riding and long distance swimming.
DR.MICHELLE HANSFORD
I grew up in Prince George, British Columbia and spent almost all my time with a myriad of pets. I showed horses, and it was their many afflictions requiring nursing care that prompted me to pursue veterinary medicine. I obtained a Bachelor of Science degree from the University of Victoria: I had a major in Biology and a minor in Microbiology. Where was that going to get me? Fortunately I was accepted to the Western College of Veterniary Medicine and was also awarded two subsequent fellowships to pursue genetic research at the Scott-Ritchey Research Center in Auburn, Alabama. While away from my lab bench I developed a keen interest in wound management under the supervision of Dr.Steven Swaim. Upon graduation from veterinary school I was accepted for an equine surgical and medical internship at Moore & Company Veterinary Services in Calgary, Alberta. Upon completion of my internship I thought it would be great to move across the continent to live and work in Pennsylvania, and then back again to Victoria, BC. There are a lot of amazing things to see on that drive, and now I can point them all out to you! My family had been growning since graduation: I found an amazing Geman Shepherd mix athe the Saskatoon SPCA that I named Akiva, and a tenacious calico kitty from the Victoria Pet Adoption Society (VPAS) that I named Adara. Then I met Simon, who has become the love of my life: we were married on August 8, 2008. We adopted an orange tabby from VPAS ( Riddick) and another German Shepherd mix through Animatch in Quebec (Ronin). My favourite part of veterinary medicine is dentistry, and I love helping people realize how important it is for their pets longevity. I am always excited to point out Akiva's dental abnormalities if you will let me, and to tell you everything I know about Hill's T/D®!
DR. STEPHANIE REID
Originally from Bedford, Nova Scotia, my love for animals started growing up in a family that always had pets: dogs and cats, a rabbit and a pony in the back yard and riding with the Halifax Jr. Bengal Lancers. Prior to attending the University of Guelph I attended Nova Scotia Agricultural College and worked in Veterinary Hospitals in Halifax-Dartmouth and Bridgewater, NS in the summers. My first job as a veterinarian in the Ottawa area was at Bells Corners Animal Hospital. Soon after that, in 1978 I set up my own full service facility, Kemptville Animal Hospital in the town of Kemptville. I grew that business and started a second veterinary clinic: Rideau Veterinary Services in Manotick. Due to pressures of having two small children, I sold the Hospitals and subsequently worked for the Federal Government. I have realized however that I am happiest with my original calling of providing health care for animals and helping their owners.
Education:
-Certificate in Veterinary Acupuncture (Chi Institute, Reddick, Florida 2008)
-Doctor of Veterinary Medicine ( University of Guelph 1977)
-Bachelor of Science (University of Guelph 1975)
Memberships:
-College of Veterinarians of Ontraio (CVO)
-Association of Veterianry Acupuncturists of Canada (AVAC)
-Ontario Veterinary Medical Association (OMVA) -International Veterinary Acupuncture Society (IVAS)
-Central Canada Veterinary Association (CCVA)
Areas of Interest: After having followed usual western style therapies and drugs for pain relief in my own life, I found a lot of benefit in Acupuncture. This lead me to pursue Acupuncture for animals as an alternative therapy to improve their quality of life especially for patients that cannot tolerate strong medications.
In 2008 I completed the post graduate certificate program in Veterinary Acupuncture at the Chi Institute of Acupuncture and Traditional Chinese Veterinary Medicine in Reddick, Florida. I completed my intership with Dr. Holly Samko who practices in Ocala, Florida and is an instructor at the Chi Institute. I have also worked with a canine rehab specialist for 8 months from May to December 2008. During that time I also worked with a canine rehab specialist for eight months from May to December 2008, and I began practicing TCVM and Acupunctrue on a referral basis.
Family: I live in Kemptville, with my husband, Blair. We have 2 Jack Russell Terriers: Gina and Diesel, our cat Spice and Nermil the turtle. As well I co-own with our daughter a 28 year old retired three day event horse. Our daughter, Melanie is teaching school at the International School of Brussels in Belgium, and our son Michael is an electrical engineer working for CAE in Mirabel QC. I downhill ski in winter and golf and kayak in the summer. I walk, cross country ski, do aquafit and Tai Chi to stay fit.
